Sony just announced that they are creating an auction system for gamers looking to buy and sell in-game content for their Everquest series. This is a huge shift from a position where buying and selling in-game content has operated at odds with a game's user agreement.

Here is the article on Yahoo!

The interesting thing is, this could lead to a whole new professional class--professional gamer--where you play purely to acquire items for later auction. All the more reason to devote even more time to my World of WarCrack (I mean WarCraft) addiction.

One cannot help but wonder if this shift will open up a niche in the market for cell phones shaped like kachinas.

Actually, I think that niche has already been filled successfully. I believe your audio-transvestite cb trucker type was the first to come up with the idea.
